May Campout

Image
Our May Campout will be 14-16 at Fort Richardson STate Park. The program will focus on  CYCLING.  Permission forms are due by 5/3 and meal planning/patrol assignments will be done at the 5/3 Troop meeting because we have COH on May 10th.  Transportation: We will officially allow pre-arranged transportation on this campout, i.e. parents can pre-arrange for their Scout to be transported to and from the campout by another parent, but again, you the parent must work this out with another parent – this is not a drop-off scenario like we did pre-COVID.  For the cycling component, while we will work on the cycling merit badge to the greatest extent possible, the merit badge is too extensive to complete at one campout.  You must bring your own bicycle, which must be either a mountain bike or hybrid for gravel path – skinny tires on a road/street bike will not be allowed - too dangerous.  You must wear a bike helmet in order to ride your bicycle at this campout. Jacob Wright High Adventure Scholarship

The Jacob Wright High Adventure Scholarship opportunity deadline is tonight. Click the link above for the application and information about the Jacob Wright High Adventure Scholarships.  Huge thanks to David Hillebrand for coordinating this effort again this year. This is only for Scouts attending a High Adventure within the next year, i.e. Philmont 2021.  All such Scouts are highly encouraged to apply, as this is not contingent solely on financial need.  The Jacob Wright High Adventure Scholarship Memorial Fund was started in 2016 after the untimely loss of a courageous and adventurous boy named Jacob Wright. With a spirit no human body could contain and an affinity for the caped crusader like no other, the Wright family generously created the Jacob Wright Memorial Fund with the idea that no adventure should be left unexplored. We are so very honored to have the privilege of administering and awarding these scholarships to our Scouts in Troop 1910.

How Can I Help The Troop?

Every Scout’s parent(s) should be involved with the Troop in some way as follows in order to exemplify servant leadership to their Scout. Do so by stepping up to be either an Assistant Scoutmaster, being an active Committee Member, serving as a Merit Badge Counselor or assisting at any of our special events. Assistant Scoutmaster  (also referred to as an "ASM") – ASM’s help run the monthly campouts, as well as long-term camps, for the Troop, and also sign off Scout handbooks when Scouts show they have completed rank requirements. To be an ASM, you must provide a  BSA Adult Membership Application  and pay the applicable BSA National and Longhorn Council Insurance fees.  Qualifications: Scoutmaster-specific training (we typically offer this training at the March Tenderfoot campout to any Adults that are interested) Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills Training (IOLS) – Weekend campout of adults training with District volunteers to learn most of the Trail to 1st
